| Be A Hero, Save A Hero! Have you ever really thought about this... Firefighters risk their lives on every call they are dispatched too. But their risk increases when they have to enter a home for a rescue. So why not take the pledge! The pledge to practice good fire safety. Make sure you have enough up-to-date and working fire safety equipment AND making AND practicing a home fire escape plan. Kidde supports a new fire safety program called... "Be A Hero, Save A Hero" Kidde will make a donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Help the Good Guys, which are organizations dedicated to helping injured and fallen firefighters and their families. I am sure you are wondering how you can take this important and potentially life saving pledge... Just head on over to Kidde on Facebook (plus you can enter there great New Years Giveaway!) and / or www.AlarmPledge.com and share via facebook or twitter about the message using the hashtag #SaveAHero. Kidde then will donate up to $10,000 to each organization or a total of up to $20,000!! But make sure if you are taking the pledge you are going to truly practice good fire safety! Did you know it is recommended that you update your smoke detectors every 10 years? How old are yours?? Do you remember to change the batteries on the ones you do have? The way we remember....is to change the batteries the same day as the time change occurs twice every year. That is until we had the opportunity to try out one of the New Kidde Worry Free Smoke Alarms. I received the Kidde Worry Free Smoke Alarm for our kitchen to review and have purchased more room specific for the rest of our house.  I must confess, I didn't know there were specific fire alarms for different areas throughout your house. I guess that shows how long it had been since I had shopped for one. Kidde offers alarms area specific for our home including living area, hallway, kitchen and bedroom. I was pleased to learn the Kidde Worry-Free Smoke Detector for the Kitchen also comes with a Carbon Monoxide detector too. So it is like getting two for the price of one! I hope we never have to see our Kidde Worry Free Kitchen Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm in action. But, if it is ever needed I like the fact it has a unique senor algorithm which detects real fires faster and reduces cooking-related nuisance alarms (so maybe my husband will not have to say that supper must me ready, when I am baking something at a high heat and open the oven door, which caused our old detector to go off all the time). But, if our new Kidde Worry-Free does alert for a nuisance, there is a temporary hush button to silence it. And if you want to know the technical terms, it come with a photoelectric smoke and Nighthawk carbon monoxide sensor. (Est. retail value of $49.97 - and the other Kidde Worry-Free detectors range in price from $25 to $35). I guess I had better explain why you don't have to remember to change any batteries. Each Kidde Worry Free detector is powered by sealed-in, 10-year lithium batteries. So it uses the included batteries for the life of the alarm. And when they are done, so is the alarm...which fits the recommendations to get a new detector every 10 years. Not sure when your ten years is up? Kidde Worry Free will chirp alert every 30 to 45 seconds to let you know it is time to replace the entire unit. | |
